A group of Avondale Estates citizens pushing for “vision-driven development” in the city has invited Decatur Assistant City Manager Lyn Menne to speak at a forum titled, “The Tale of Two (Vibrant) Cities: What They Did That Avondale Can Do.”

The forum, hosted by Second Century Avondale, will be held at the Avondale Community Club on Wednesday, April 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Community Club is located at 59 Lakeshore Dr.

“Over the last 30 plus years, Decatur has purposefully coupled their forward thinking vision for a walkable downtown with infrastructure investment,” the event announcement says. “The result is an economically thriving and walkable destination for live, work and play. In 2013, Georgia Trend declared, ‘The city of Decatur could give a clinic on downtown revitalization.'”

The other featured speaker is Monica Callahan, planning director for the city of Madison, Georgia.

“They will share how the cities of Decatur and Madison each used investment in infrastructure to create purposeful, profound and sustainable change,” the event announcement says.
