The city of Avondale Estates is planning to mark the reopening of Willis Park after an extensive renovation.

The park reopened last month. The Grand Opening will be held Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The park is located at 51 Dartmouth Avenue in Avondale Estates.

“Join the Board of Mayor and Commissioners, City staff, friends, and neighbors for the Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Celebration of Willis Park! The Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.,” the event announcement from the city says. “The orange fencing around the playing field will also be removed at this time. After the ceremony, the celebration will begin! Attendees can enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs from Skip’s Catering, a bouncy house, an art station, games, a tour of the park led by the contractor who helped with the renovation and more!”

Willis Park, named after town founder George Francis Willis, is located off of Dartmouth Avenue and across from the Museum School on Forrest Boulevard.

In August, the Avondale Estates City Commission awarded three contracts for the project worth over $600,000.
