Penny Ratliff has been a teacher at Renfroe Middle School for 36 years, teaching generations of Decatur children in the process.

But now it’s time to say goodbye.

Ratliff will be retiring at the end of the school year and her colleagues are preparing a proper sendoff for her.

There will be a celebration in her honor on Thursday, May 12, at the Decatur High School performing arts center, starting at 5 p.m., followed by a reception in the cafeteria.

“We are celebrating her contribution to our school system and the many, many students, faculty, and staff that have been touched by her gifts,” her friend and colleague Lisa Alexander said.
