Multiple news outlets are reporting that U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., is leading a sit in on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to demand action on legislation intended to curb gun violence.

“We have a mission, a mandate, and a moral obligation to speak up and speak out until the House votes to address gun violence #holdthefloor,” Lewis wrote on Twitter.

The New York Times is reporting that the sit-in is intended to get the House to act before leaving for the Independence Day recess. It’s the latest move by Democrats in both houses of Congress to put pressure on lawmakers to take action following the June 12 shooting in Orlando, Fla., that killed nearly 50 people.

Last week, the Senate Democrats held a filibuster to demand action on bills intended to restrict the sales of guns to people on terrorism watch lists. The proposals did not pass.
