Atlanta Improv Festival returns June 16 – June 18, features ’30 Rock’ actor

Atlanta’s Village Theatre hosts the 2nd annual Atlanta Improv Festival, running June 16 through June 18.

It will include an appearance by Jack McBrayer, who played Kenneth in the TV show “30 Rock.”

The theater is located 349 Decatur St SE in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.

“The festival boasts the best improv acts in the city as well as top performers from across the country,” the festival’s website says. “This year the festival will welcome a minimum of 12 out-of-town teams and two headliners. Shows are scheduled for Thursday night through Saturday night in one of our two theatre spaces. During the day, the festival will offer improv workshops for everyone from beginners to advanced performers.”

Tickets are $95 for a VIP three-day pass, $65 for a regular three-day pass, and $30 for a nightly pass. For more information about purchasing tickets, click here.

According to the Village Theatre, 3Peat will be the festival’s opening act followed by the headliner, Quartet.

“3Peat is a Chicago based comedy group performing Armando style improv,” a press release from the Village Theatre says. “The group recently won iO Chicago’s Del Awards for best non-herald team. Quartet is an iO Chicago based long form improv group featuring Jack McBrayer, Sue Gillan, Jean Villepique and Tami Sagher. With the show’s success in Chicago, Quartet expanded the production to include performances at iO West in Los Angeles.

“Jack McBrayer started his improv career at The Second City and iO in Chicago. A Georgia native, McBrayer moved to New York and Los Angeles, where he continued to perform improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade and iO West. From 2006 to 2013, he portrayed the role of Kenneth the Page on ’30 Rock,’ created by The Second City alumnus Tina Fey. McBrayer has also appeared in numerous movies including ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’, ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and Wreck It Ralph.'”

Atlanta – May 25, 2016 – Village Theatre today announced the Saturday night lineup for its 2016 Atlanta Improv Festival.  The 2nd annual festival, June 16-18, will feature 3Peat as the opening group followed by headliner Quartet.

3Peat is a Chicago based comedy group performing Armando style improv.  The group recently won iO Chicago’s Del Awards for best non-herald team.  Quartet is an iO Chicago based long form improv group featuring Jack McBrayer, Sue Gillan, Jean Villepique and Tami Sagher.  With the show’s success in Chicago, Quartet expanded the production to include performances at iO West in Los Angeles.

Jack McBrayer started his improv career at The Second City and iO in Chicago.  A Georgia native, McBrayer moved to New York and Los Angeles, where he continued to perform improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade and iO West.  From 2006 to 2013, he portrayed the role of Kenneth the Page on 30 Rock, created by The Second City alumnus Tina Fey.  McBrayer has also appeared in numerous movies including Talladega Nights:  The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Wreck It Ralph.

Sue Gillan is an alumnus of The Second City in Chicago where she was a resident company director.  Most recently, she was the artistic director of Boom Chicago in Amsterdam Netherlands.  Gillan has been a creative director at several advertising agencies where she led a team of improvisers and writers.  She has also cast and directed numerous commercials, some of which stared her in the role.

Jean Villepique began her improv career with The Mee-Ow Show at Northwestern University.  She went on to study with Del Close at iO Chicago and was hired to write and perform with The Second City in Chicago.  Villepique also taught and performed at the Magnet Theater in New York and has performed around the country with Rebecca Sohn and Deb Downing in Switchboard.  Currently she is performing with Quartet at the iO West and Soundtrack at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles.  Her television credits include 30 Rock, The Office, Modern Family, Playing House and Baskets.

Tami Sagher is a writer and producer on Girls and Inside Amy Schumer.  She has also written for Broad City, How I Met Your Mother, Bored to Death, and 30 Rock.  Sagher is an alumnus of The Second City in Chicago and currently improvises at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York.  In summer 2016, she will star in Mike Birbiglia’s new film Don’t Think Twice. 

The Atlanta Improv Festival is a three-day festival showcasing the best national and local comedy groups in the industry.  Held at Village Theatre from June 16-18, the festival will also include celebrity headliners, nine comedy workshops and more than 20 shows.  New this year is the Atlanta Improv Festival Cage Match competition.  Teams can compete for the title of best improv group in Atlanta.  To submit your team, send an email to [email protected].
