While retail and development along North Decatur Road is moving forward at an unstoppable pace, the North DeKalb Mall on Lawrenceville Highway is struggling to stay relevant.

Many stores, including the Macy’s, have closed their doors. Talk of a Costco opening up in that location has sparked plenty of excitement. The nearest Costco is in Brookhaven. But despite reports from reliable sources like Tomorrow’s News today that Costco has its eye on the Macy’s space, the company isn’t ready to make any official announcements.

An employee in the real estate department said, “Our corporate policy is not to comment on specific markets, so we have no comment.”

Lennar Commercial Investors, one of the owners of North DeKalb Mall along with Sterling Organization, also had no official comment.

A spokesperson for Lennar said, “I can’t really comment on any negotiations we have ongoing with any tenants, just because there are always confidentially agreements in place.”

She added, “As soon as I am able to comment on anything, I can send you information. As of right now, there is no news to share, and if there was I probably couldn’t share it with you. I know it’s frustrating. I know all the local residents are talking everyone is anticipating what’s going to happen. Right now we just don’t have anything to share, anything we can share. We’re hoping to let the public know what’s happening.”

In the meantime, the public will have to keep talking and hope Costco is listening.
