The Sugar Moon Bake Shop has closed its retail space in Oakhurst, but the owner says she’ll still be in the baking business.

Amy Christine told Decaturish that she closed the store because it wasn’t profitable.

“I essentially just reorganized the business,” she said. “I’m still providing cupcakes to the Oakhurst Market for the neighborhood at a wholesale rate. I’m focusing on wholesale and special orders and custom work and I just kind of discontinued the actual retail, because of the operational cost. The retail business wasn’t supporting operational cost at that particular space.”

She said she’s still available to people interested in buying some of her tasty treats. She can be reached at 770-823-2633 or by emailing [email protected]. People can visit the store online at: http://www.sugarmoonbakeshop.com/

“Custom work and catering,  that’s really where I was making most of the money,” she said.

Christine said she isn’t planning to open up another retail store in a more cost-effective space, but hasn’t ruled out doing that at some point down the road. She said she’s doing well with her wholesale and special orders business. She said Oakhurst Market constantly sells out of her products.

“So I’m always scurrying around to make sure they have enough cupcakes for Decatur and the neighborhood,” she said.

Chistine said an insurance company is moving into the old Sugar Moon space.
