Burglars broke out the front door window of the recently-opened Rocket Fizz in Decatur.

According to police Lt. Jennifer Ross, “Officers responded to an alarm call at Rocket Fizz in the 100 block of Clairemont Avenue at approximately 4:52 a.m. [Sept. 17] and found the front door broken out and a large piece of concrete on the floor inside of the business. Nothing was taken. Security video shows suspects enter the store and leave when no cash was found.”

Rocket Fizz recently opened. It sells soda pop, candy and an assortment of novelty items and souvenirs.

There were other crimes reported Saturday morning, Ross said.

“At approximately 5:13 a.m., officers responded to the Marriott parking deck and met with the security officer who reported numerous vehicles parked in the parking deck had been broken into between 3:45 am and 5:13 a.m.,” Ross said. “Officers have identified twelve vehicles that were broken into or unsecured and entered in the Marriott parking deck. Paperwork, loose change, a laptop, a flashlight, sunglasses, cash, a purse and an amplifier/microphones were stolen.”

There were also vehicle break-ins reported at the Holiday Inn by Publix, but that’s outside of the Decatur Police Department’s jurisdiction. Decaturish has asked the DeKalb County Police Department for additional information.

Ross said the crimes could be related.

“It is possible with the time frame and proximity,” she said.
