Amendment 2, on the ballot this November, gives voters a once-in-a-lifetime chance to give hope back to child victims of sex trafficking by establishing a dedicated fund for rehabilitative services in our state.
Child sex trafficking is a serious problem throughout Georgia, with victims being identified in 102 counties last year. The average age of the children referred for victim services is just 13 years old. These children – girls and boys of all races and from all socioeconomic and family situations – have been tricked or coerced into the sex trade, often by people they believed cared about them and their future.
They have been mentally and physically abused and they need medical care, counseling, and safe housing to get their lives back on track.
I encourage all voters to say “yes” to Amendment 2 on the general election ballot. More detailed information can be found at www.safeharboryes.com.
By voting yes on Amendment 2, we have the chance to ensure the restorative services they need will be there for them if they are rescued. For us, it’s just a vote. For them, it is their future.
