Avondale Estates Planner Keri Stevens recently graduated from theĀ Georgia Academy for Economic Development, the city says.

Students included elected officials, business leaders, educators, and social service providers from 10 counties in the Metro area.

“The Academy provided each of the graduates an opportunity to gain a unique understanding of the complexities of economic and community development on the local, regional, and state levels,” a press release from the city says.

The classes were held one day a month over a four month period. They included training in the basics of community and economic development. There were also special classes on business recruitment and retention, tourism product development, downtown development and planning, according to the press release.

“In addition, the curriculum features specific leadership skills such as consensus building, ethics in public service, collaborative leadership and other segments needed for effective community leadership in economic development,” the press release says.
