DeKalb County Police responded to a call in greater Decatur on Jan. 16 after a 10-year-old boy was shot in the leg.

The incident occurred on Knollview Drive shortly before midnight. The boy was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“It was determined the 10-year-old was shot accidentally by his 11-year-old brother while handling a gun,” a spokesperson for the Police Department said. “The gun reportedly was brought into the home by a 15-year-old cousin. The guardians were home at the time, but asleep when the incident occurred.  The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.”
