The Atlanta Gymnastics Center in Decatur is shutting its doors after two decades in business.

A parent of students at the center and an employee confirmed the news on Jan. 16. An employee said the closure is “effective immediately.” Students were being turned away at the door Monday afternoon.

Attempts to reach the owner have been unsuccessful. The parent told Decaturish that a Gymnastics Center employee said that City Schools of Decatur, which recently bought the Talley Street property that contains the gym, recently told the owner to vacate the premises.

Attempts to reach CSD have been unsuccessful. CSD was closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The school system intends to use the property along Talley Street for a new school.

This is a developing story and it will be updated when more information becomes available.
