The U.S. Postal Service has purchased the building it occupies at 520 West Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decaturish has learned.

A spokesman said the Postal Service bought the property, “To retain the facility for future use as a postal facility.”

Decaturish started asking around after a reader inquired about the future of the property. With development happening all over Decatur, the Post Office location, which occupies about 4.2 acres in proximity to downtown, would be attractive to any buyer.

The purchase price was not disclosed. The building’s previous owner, John Perlman, said that the Postal Service closed on the property on Dec. 30, 2016.

“That would seem to indicate they plan to be there,” he said.
