Decatur Police have arrested a man who is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Decatur Kroger store on Commerce Drive.

Marcus Strong, 23, of greater Decatur, turned himself in at the Decatur Police Department on March 10, Lt. Jennifer Ross said. The arrest warrant was for statutory rape, Ross said. The victim is a woman in her mid-twenties, according to the police report.

According to a police report, Strong faced possible charges of rape and exploitation/intimidation of a disabled adult, both of which are felonies, in connection with the March 7 incident.

Decaturish asked Ross whether Strong will face any additional charges.

“Additional charges will be up to the District Attorney’s office,” she said. “They were consulted about the appropriate charge in this case.”

A spokesperson for Kroger has confirmed that the suspect is an employee of the store who has been suspended.

Police responded to the call at 3:24 p.m. on March 7 and met with the person who filed the complaint, the victim and the manager of the Kroger store, the report says. The case is still under investigation.

A Kroger spokesperson said via email, “Safety is our first and foremost priority at Kroger. We have suspended the associate and are working with local law enforcement in their investigation.”
