All lanes of I-20 westbound in DeKalb County have reopened following speedy overnight repairs.

A portion of the road between Gresham and Candler Roads shut down yesterday after it began to buckle, causing the pavement to jut outward. The Georgia Department of Transportation says the incident was likely due to work being performed on an underground utility.

“Crews worked to break up large slabs of concrete, remove the dirt and concrete, remove and replace the pipe below which was the most time consuming part of the work,” GDOT said in a press release. “Beginning late last night, crews poured 63 cubic yards of concrete in the area which cured overnight.  Workers then completed additional work including the lane striping before 6:30 a.m.”
