The city of Avondale Estates says its residents should expect a slight tax increase this year.

“The Governing Authority of the City of Avondale Estates has tentatively adopted a 2017 millage rate of 9.957 mills (the current millage rate) which will require an increase in property taxes by 4.84 percent,” the announcement from the city says.

That means a home with a fair market value of $305,056 will pay an additional $56 in taxes. A tax increase on non-homestead property with a fair market value of $244,929 would be $45, the city says.

There will be three public hearings on the rate increase, held at City Hall located at 21 North Avondale Plaza. The hearings will be held on the following dates:

– Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 5:30 p.m.

– Monday, June 26, 2017, at 10 a.m.

– Monday, June 26, 2017, at 6:30 p.m.
