On Saturday, Sept. 9, the city of Decatur and Global Growers, a local nonprofit organization, will present their fifth annual Decatur’s Dinner Party event at the historic Decatur Cemetery.

Celebrating the city’s “vibrant” food community, the Dinner Party combines the fresh and healthy food harvested from Global Growers’ local farms with the cooking of Decatur’s finest chefs and restaurants, according to a press release about the event.

Decatur’s Dinner Party is a major fundraiser for Global Growers, an organization that “connects families to land, education, and markets, with a priority on partnering with international farmers who have come to Georgia as refugees,” the release said. All proceeds will directly support the group.

The event will run from 6 p.m until 10 p.m. and will feature a family-style multi-course dinner, handcrafted cocktails, local beers and wine, along with live and silent auctions. Several Decatur restaurants will prepare unique dishes, including the Brick Store Pub, Cakes and Ale, Chai Pani, Farm Burger, Leon’s Full Service and Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards. Local Craft Beer will be provided by Three Taverns, Wild Heaven and Good Word Brewing, with cocktails provided by Kimball House and Leon’s Full Service.

Global Grower’s Executive Director Robin Chanin believes the support from the local community is what has made this event so successful.

“The City of Decatur – its restaurants, businesses, community members, and government –has been an unbelievable partner for Global Growers,” Chanin said in the press release. “We’re excited to celebrate five years of this fabulous event and partnership. With support from the Decatur community, Global Growers continues to create new opportunities to grow, share, and eat healthy, sustainably-grown food. Decatur’s Dinner Party is a fun and extremely delicious way to honor and support Decatur farmers, chefs, and eaters!”

The honorary chair of this year’s event is Brent Adams, President of Private Bank of Decatur.

“Decatur’s Dinner Party and Global Growers exemplify the progressive, hands-on attitude of our unique and wonderful City,” he said in the press release. “This annual event is a great way to celebrate our international community, our place as a food capital and Decatur’s commitment to ‘local,’ as well as shining a light on the connectivity and education that Global Growers provides so well.”
