A woman struck by a DeKalb County Police vehicle on Tuesday morning has passed away.

Janet Pickney died  after being struck by a DeKalb County police vehicle. The driver of the vehicle swerved to miss a vehicle turning in front of him. After hitting Pickney the vehicle hit a house at the intersection of Brown Road and Chamblee Tucker Road. The officer survived, but Pickney suffered critical injuries.

Fox 5 Atlanta reported she was 66 years old and an avid runner. An earlier report from Fox 5 incorrectly reported her age.

A You Caring account has been established to support her family said Pickney was a retired teacher.

“Janet was an outstanding part of the community; she spent her time volunteering, fostering children, and loved running in her spare time,” the You Caring account says.
