There’s been an outpouring of support for the family of Asiemoula Papadopoulos, known as Mama P, who founded Athens Pizza in greater Decatur.

According to Fox 5 and the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Mama P died on July 19 while on vacation in Greece. The AJC reports she was swimming in Tolo Bay at the time. She was 81.

She was the face of Athens Pizza for 40 years. She and her husband John, who preceded her in death, both fled the Soviet Union, according to the AJC.

Fox 5 reported that she immigrated to America in 1963 with $300 to her name.

Her funeral was held Aug. 2.
