It took longer than expected, but work on installing a High-Intensity Activated crosswalk beacon at South Candler and East Davis Streets should be finished soon, Decatur City Commissioner Brian Smith said.

The Georgia Department of Transportation planned to have the signal ready before the start of school, but said, “The dark poles for this historic area took longer to procure than originally anticipated.”

Smith said the poles are on the way.

“The poles are arriving this week and it is anticipated that they will go up next week and be ready for inspection soon thereafter,” he said in an email to Oakhurst residents.
