UPDATE: Decatur cancels first Holiday Movie Night on West Ponce due to expected winter weather

UPDATE: Due to the potential for snowy and rainy weather Friday evening,  this event has been cancelled. From the city of Decatur.

Due to uncertain weather conditions tomorrow afternoon, Movie Night on West Ponce is canceled. The next West Ponce Movie Night will take place in the spring. Stay tuned to the Decatur Focus and City of Decatur’s Facebook page early next year for more details.

This Friday, Dec. 8, come out to Decatur’s first Holiday Movie Night on West Ponce.

The event will be held on West Ponce de Leon Avenue between Café Lily and the 335 parking garage entrance, close to Mellow Mushroom.

Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with “a fun workout with Orange theory and holiday trivia” followed by a “holiday double feature” of “Frosty’s Winter Wonderland” and “White Christmas” at 6:30 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to get some dinner from restaurant in downtown Decatur and pack chairs and bring blankets to settle down to watch some movies.

As reported in a recent press release, local restaurants will be participating in this year’s event.

– Farmburger is serving holiday specials and will have a Bier Garden featuring Sweetwater’s Festive Ale and cookie decorating for the kids

– Mellow Mushroom serving slices of pizza from its patio

– Highland Bakery is it extending its hours to serve hot chocolate.”

In addition, City of Decatur Fire and Rescue will be there to collect canned goods, and the Visitors Center will set up a tent on West Ponce to wrap gifts, purchased from a local shop, for free.

For planning purposes, this portion of West Ponce de Leon Avenue will close in the afternoon for the movie night, so make arrangements to take another road home after 3 p.m.
