It’s snowing, y’all. Decaturish asked its readers to send in pictures of the snowy weather outside and they did not disappoint. Here are the ones we have so far and we’ll update this post as we receive more.

Some after school activities are cancelled at City Schools of Decatur’s 4/5 Academy FYI, and there will probably be more cancellations on the way. CSD said it will close schools an hour early after initially reporting dismissal times will not change. Here’s a message CSD posted  on its Facebook page:

DeKalb County Schools is planning to dismiss early due to the weather. The dismissal times are as follows:

•    Elementary schools – 12:00 p.m.
•    High schools – 12:45 p.m.
•    Middle schools – 1:30 p.m.
•    ALL STAFF – 2:00 p.m.

Atlanta Public Schools is also dismissing one hour early …

DeKalb County government is also closing its facilities early for the day. A statement from the county says, “Due to the potential for inclement winter weather in metro Atlanta, DeKalb County offices, libraries, senior centers and recreation centers will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8.”

The city of Decatur released the following message around 1 p.m.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the metro Atlanta area to a Winter Weather Warning beginning at 5 p.m. today. Unless cancelled, it will be in effect until 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9. Expect a mix of rain and snow through the afternoon that could change over into all snow later in the evening.

Slick and dangerous road conditions are possible, especially on elevated bridges and overpasses. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate through the day and into the evening.

City offices will close at 3:30 p.m. today.  Active Living programs will end at 3 p.m. and Saturday programs will not start until noon (weather permitting).

City Schools has cancelled after-school activities today and all Saturday programs.

The Decatur Recreation Department also has announced snow related closings for the day.

Decatur Recreation Center will close at 3 pm today and plan to open at 10 am on Saturday, weather permitting.

Ebster Recreation Center is closed for the day and will open at 10 am on Saturday, weather permitting.

The Glenlake Tennis Center is closed for the day.

While Movie Night on West Ponce was cancelled due to the inclement weather, Farm Burger has decided to move ahead with its own movie night. Here’s more info, from Farm Burger:

While we’re heartbroken that the City of Decatur Movie Night was cancelled for December 8th, Farm Burger has decided the show must go on!
We will still do our planned activities tomorrow (Bier Garten, Cookie Decorating, Snow Machine) and will project a movie at the restaurant. Festivities will start at 5:30, and the movie at 6:30.
DeKalb County and the city of Atlanta have also opened up emergency warming centers. More information from DeKalb County:
DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County announces the DeKalb Emergency Management Agency has three warming centers available for citizens to use today during as temperatures drop.

The following locations are scheduled to remain open until further notice:

ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta announced today that it will open an emergency warming shelter during the winter weather event, which includes cold temperatures and winter precipitation, to ensure that Atlanta residents have a safe place to keep warm. The shelter will open today, Friday December 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Park Recreation Center, located at 400 Merrits Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. The shelter will remain open until further notice.

The county announced that its parks and recreation facilities will be closed on Saturday. Here’s the full announcement from the county:

DeKalb County residents are encouraged to shelter in place as temperatures are expected to drop overnight, causing slippery road conditions through Saturday morning.

DeKalb County parks and recreation facilities will be closed Saturday. Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center will open Saturday for an evening event.

Commercial sanitation will not be picked up Saturday and the Seminole Landfill will be closed.

County libraries will open at noon.
