City Schools of Decatur, Atlanta Public Schools and DeKalb County Public Schools are closed on Thursday, Jan. 18.

It is the second day of weather-related school closures this week. All Atlanta-area school districts closed their doors today, Jan. 17, due to snow.

Here’s the announcement from City Schools of Decatur:

City Schools of Decatur schools and offices will remain closed on Thursday, January 18, 2018, due to continued icy conditions and the forecast for dangerously cold wind chills. All scheduled events and activities are canceled.

At the January 23rd Board meeting, the Board will discuss the days missed this week and last week to decide on make up days. In case you missed the previous announcement, the three days missed following the mass power outages caused by the hurricane earlier this year will not be made up.

ATLANTA —In coordination with Governor Deal’s decision to close state offices as outlined in this press release, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will remain closed for Thursday, January 18. Due to inclement weather, including continued extreme cold temperatures and icy road conditions which will not be cleared in Atlanta and the surrounding metro area where many of our staff members live, all APS campuses and administrative offices will remain closed. The Atlanta Board of Education (ABOE) meeting scheduled for January 18 has also been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.  This includes the board work session, community and legislative meeting.

APS anticipates welcoming students back to school on Friday, January 19.

Parents, caregivers, and employees are encouraged to be mindful of road conditions and to exercise caution when traveling throughout the metro Atlanta area. APS takes the safety and security of all our students and staff very seriously. We will continue to monitor the weather forecast and will keep parents and staff updated via the APS website, robocalls, the media, and other communications channels on any potential weather impact on future school schedules.

For APS charter schools, parents, caregivers, and employees are encouraged to contact their schools directly for scheduling information.
