A developer is seeking a rezoning to allow for the construction of a 244-unit affordable housing development near the Kensington Marta Station.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6:30 to 7 p.m., there will be a follow up meeting about Phoenix Station, which will require rezoning of a portion of Kensington Road.

The proposal for Phoenix Station encompasses six pieces of land on Kensington Road that are currently part of unincorporated DeKalb County, near the Kensington Marta Station.

According to the proposal, these areas will be turned into a space for “244 new affordable housing units reserved for families with children, individuals and persons with disabilities with incomes at or below 60 percent of the area median income.”

If rezoning for Phoenix Station is approved, the development would border the city of Avondale Estates. As stated in a recent press release, Wednesday night’s meeting is “to inform residents in the surrounding community of rezoning and special land use permit applications for this project.”

The meeting will be held at the Covington Branch Library, located at 3500 Covington Highway in Decatur.
