A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy was transported to the hospital Monday morning, Jan. 8, following a medical emergency that caused an accident in Decatur.

The incident occurred near the Arlo apartments on East Trinity Place.

According to Police Lt. Jennifer Ross, the vehicle driven by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy struck the rear end of another vehicle because deputy was having a medical emergency.

“A witness and one of our officers assisted in providing aide to [the deputy] until paramedics arrived and he was transported to an area hospital,” Ross said.

The other driver was not injured, Ross said, and she didn’t know the condition of the sheriff’s deputy. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed its deputy was involved, but referred all questions to Decatur Police.
