Mathnasium of Decatur opened in May of 2014, and is part of a franchise based in Los Angeles that started in 2002. What began as one location grew to 900 centers nationwide.

Mathnasium is a math-only learning center where kids can receive both enrichment and remediation in math. It is known for making math engaging and fun for students who may have disliked the subject. Mathnasium is also known for challenging students who already excel in math to keep the subject interesting for them.

The owner of Mathnasium is Sam Younis, a city of Decatur resident since march of 2014. His kids attend City Schools of Decatur and the business hires local instructors in the area, including college students from Emory University and Agnes Scott College. The center director is Matthew Jones, who has helped build enrollment and maintain an excellent standard of service. Jones has been with the center since the day it opened.

Younis said the center also offers homework help, customized summer programs, and ACT/SAT preparation. Mathnasium is the headline sponsor of the Tour deCatur and has partnered with the Decatur Education Foundation to offer scholarships to students who are part of the Education Foundation’s mentorship program.

Younis said he supports Decaturish because, “Even though Mathnasium is a franchise, it is locally owned and staffed. We think of ourselves as a community hub that supports the vibrant education scene in Decatur. We appreciate the role Decaturish plays in keeping this city informed about all local news and find it to be the most reliable and engaged news service.”
