Sams street will temporarily close on Saturday for crane removal

The moving of a construction crane will result in the temporary closure of Sams Street between East College Avenue and East Freeman Street on Saturday.

The closure will begin at 1:30 p.m.

“Work is expected to conclude Monday, April 30, at approximately 6 p.m., weather permitting,” an announcement from the city says. “No work will be allowed between midnight and 6 a.m. during the process.”

The street will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for electronics recycling day.

“South Columbia Drive is expected to experience heavier than normal traffic during this time,” the city says. “Decatur Police will be on hand to direct traffic at the intersection of Talley Street and South Columbia Drive during Monday’s AM and PM rush hours. If you do not need to be in the area on Sunday and Monday, alternate routes of travel are recommended.

“Pedestrian access through the area will be maintained. A sidewalk on the west side of Sams Street will remain open during the road closure.”
