DeKalb County CEO Lee May has suspended Purchasing Director Kelvin Walton and secretary Nina Hall with pay, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The suspensions are related to the ongoing corruption trial against suspended CEO Burrell Ellis.

The AJC reports that the suspensions came about because Walton and Hall gave “sworn testimony in the Ellis case that indicates they were involved in corruption at the county.”

According to DeKalb County spokesman Burke Brennan, the county has named Scott Callan as acting purchasing director.

“Callan is the President and Co-Founder of CalStrat Consulting LLC, a supply management advisory consulting firm that specializes in third party contract negotiations, advisory services, and training,” a press release from the county says.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Decaturish last month that Walton would be placed on leave, but at the time the county said he would remain as purchasing director.

Ellis is accused shaking down county vendors for campaign contributions. According to a Feb. 28 WSB-TV report, Walton was the District Attorney’s confidential informant in the case. The news station reported that two employees, including Walton, were under investigation by the county as a result of the TV station’s reporting. To read that story, click here.
