Community links: Former assistant DA says Ellis probe broke the law

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis got an unlikely assist in his defense against charges that he used his position to convince county vendors to donate to his campaign.

According to 11 Alive, former assistant DeKalb County DA Don Geary testified Thursday that DeKalb County DA Robert James illegally recorded video of Ellis in the process of building a case against the CEO. Ellis is suspended until the charges are resolved.

– The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the sixth annual Decatur Old House fair is Feb. 8. The event focuses on historic preservation of old homes.

– The Emory University Board of Trustees recently elected two new members. According to the university, the new BOT members are Shantella “Shan” Carr Cooper, a Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company executive and Timothy C. Rollins, vice president of the Rollins Investment Company in Atlanta.

– According to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control, 38 million Americans drink too much alcohol.
