Jurors have told a judge they are unable to reach a consensus on 13 charges against DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the judge has declared a mistrial in the case. The AJC reports that Ellis can’t resume his duties as CEO until he is found “not guilty” or the district attorney dismisses the charges. Currently, County Commissioner Lee May is serving as the county’s interim CEO. To read the full story from the AJC, click here.

Ellis was accused of shaking down county contractors for campaign contributions. CBS Atlanta reports that jurors deliberated for 35 hours over eight days.
