Emory University Hospital ranked number one hospital in GA

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Emory University Hospital the number one hospital in Georgia and metro Atlanta.

A press release from Emory says the ranking was part of the 2015-16 Best Hospitals guide. It also notes this is the fourth year in a row Emory has received the ranking.

U.S. News said it went through data for nearly 5,000 hospitals and surveys of more than 140,000 physicians “to rank the best centers in 16 adult specialties from cancer to urology. Death rates, patient safety and hospital reputation were a few of the many factors we considered.”

Emory University Hospital, which includes Emory University Hospital at Wesley Woods and Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital, also ranked in 12 adult specialty areas:

  • Cancer – (#22 up from #24)
  • Cardiology & Heart Surgery – (#15 up from #16)
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology (#18 up from #23)
  • Ear, Nose & Throat (3-way tie) – (#45 from #24)
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (2-way tie) – (#40 up from #41)
  • Geriatrics – (#20 up from #21)
  • Gynecology – (#26 up from #42)
  • Nephrology – (#42 – #42 last year)
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery (#12 up from #15)
  • Ophthalmology – (#12 up from #14)
  • Orthopaedics (2-way tie) – #31
  • Urology – (#22 up from #25)

Northside Hospital ranked second in metro Atlanta, followed by Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital.
