The Purple Corkscrew Wine Room is moving from Emory Village to Avondale Estates.

The wine room announced it is relocating to 32 N. Avondale. An email announcement said the new location is 1,600 square feet of space with plenty of parking and room for small private events.

The shop plans to open for business on December 1.

The email noted the Emory Village location has already closed, saying, “As a result of landlord neglect and bad weather, the Purple Corkscrew Wine Shop suffered incredible damage and had to close for business last week. DeKalb County has issued a citation to my landlord (*case number 89504) and re inspection is scheduled for 11/30/15. Therefore, regrettably, the Purple Corkscrew will not resume business in the Emory Village location.”

The owner thanked everyone who supported the wine shop at the Emory Village location over the past 3 1/2 years.

The move to Avondale Estates appears to be occurring at an opportune time. Avondale’s Little Wine Shop closed its doors over the summer.

And plans have been under way for a new wine shop in Emory Village. A developer has been working to turn the old Chevron station at 1574 North Decatur Road into a Sherlock’s Wine Merchant and possible restaurant, though plans were recently put on hold.

The Purple Corkscrew posted photos of the new location on Facebook Friday afternoon, promising a big grand opening toast soon.
