Decatur Police say a victim turned the tables on her attacker.

Decatur Police Lt. Jennifer Ross said that at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Jan. 29, officers responded to a call from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Sycamore Street and East Ponce de Leon about a robbery.

The victim told police she was entering her garage at Sycamore Square Condominiums when a male suspect walked up behind her and snatched the purse from her shoulder. She screamed and chased the suspect toward the church parking lot. A “concerned citizen” heard the scream and called 911. Another citizen witnessed the suspect enter a vehicle in the parking lot. The woman was not injured.

“Detailed descriptions of the suspect and vehicle and direction of travel were provided to officers responding to the area,” Ross said. “Officer Hensel observed a vehicle matching the description turn from Commerce Drive into the 600 block of East College Avenue and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect was located reclined in the front passenger seat with the victim’s purse nearby in plain view.”

Police say the  suspect is 44-year-old Vinson Lopez of Dublin Georgia. He was arrested and charged with robbery. Police detained the driver of the vehicle, who was later released.
