The Decatur School Board will meet on June 14 and will consider finalizing the purchase of several parcels along Talley Street.

Board members voted to go under contract for the property in June of last year. At the time, the anticipated purchase price was $1.25 million per acre for 3.9 acres. The parcels being considered at the June 14 meeting are located at 2617 and 2601 Talley Street, and 302, 304, 308, 312, and 314 South Columbia Drive. The School Board went under contract for the parcel at 2617, being sold by Frederick and June Hart, in July of last year. The seller for the other parcels is Talley Columbia, LLC.

Possible uses for the property include building a new elementary school or building a new site for City Schools of Decatur’s early learning program.

CSD has been working to acquire property to meet its growing enrollment needs. In November of last year, voters overwhelmingly approved a $75 million General Obligation bond to pay for school construction.

The School Board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at CSD’s central office, located at 125 Electric Avenue. All meetings are open to the public.
