The DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce has named the Avondale MARTA station redevelopment its 2017 Project of the Year.

The $120 million transit-oriented development project officially got underway in November. It will be called E. Co., short for East College Avenue, where part of the development will be located. When Phase 1 is finished, there will be 378 market rate apartments, 92 affordable senior living units, a new plaza and 22,000 square feet of commercial space for entertainment, dining and retail businesses. The first phase is expected to be completed in 2018.

The East Decatur Greenway PATH trail will be connected to the site.

“We are elated and honored to be recognized for our E. Co project as we work to enhance our transit options and reimagine various stations throughout our system,” MARTA CEO Keith Parker said in a press release. “At MARTA, we are always exploring innovative ways to enhance the overall transit experience by introducing new amenities, innovations and conveniences for our broad range of customers across the region.”
