Big things are happening in Decatur, with the long-anticipated reopening of a popular spot on West Ponce de Leon.

Big Tex is likely to reopen on Monday, July 24 at 5 p.m.., according to manager Robert Wyatt.

“We’re 99.1 percent sure,” he said, barring any unforeseen circumstances. He said the hours will be 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight Monday through Friday, and 12 p.m. to close on Saturday and Sunday.

Decatur Commissioner Scott Drake will be one of the partners in the restaurant, which closed in 2014. Last October, Drake said his other partners were  father/son duo Dan and Beau Nolen, who were previous partners at Big Tex, Robin Vaughan, who will serve as general manager, and Charlie Hendon. On Friday, July 21, Decaturish learned that Hendon has left the project and the new partners are long-time Decatur residents Sean and Tammy Dammann and Michael Thibadeau. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, one of the prior owners, is not involved in the new venture.
